Research

The complexity of infectious disease dynamics in the environment calls for novel approaches. The overarching goal of the IDEAS program at UGA is to train young scientists to use leading-edge conceptual and methodological approaches to solve pressing infectious disease problems. Research perspectives on these disease systems at UGA range from single cells to whole ecosystems. The wide-ranging ecological approaches coupled with computational strengths in statistics and dynamic modeling provide the key ingredients to spur innovation in training and research. A major emphasis of the program is on tackling problems occurring at the interface of different scales of biological organization: the culture at UGA lends itself to an atmosphere where students are enabled to work across disciplinary lines.
